Gudni A. Emilsson

Gudni A. Emilsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. At the age of 4 he started music lessons with his father. As a Master Degree candidate at the State University of Music Trossingen in Germany he studied piano with Wolfgang Wagenhauser and conducting with Walter Hugler and Miguel Monroy. Gudni has also taken Master Classes, Workshops and assisted conductors including: Walter Hugler, Sergiu Celibidache, Kirk Trevor, Lutz Koehler, Rudolf Barshai, Ilya Musin, Myung Wung Chung, Helmut Rilling, John Eliot Gardiner and Bernard Haitink. 

Gudni A. Emilsson has won numerous national and international prizes for conducting. 

Among the rewards he has received:

– LIND Artist Award in Reykjavik – Iceland

Emilsson has further performed in several important musical festivals and concert halls such as: Bohuslav Martinu Festival Prague, Gewandhaus Hall Leipzig Germany, Luxembourg, Rio de Janeiro Sala Cecilia Mireles in Brazil, Alba Music Festival Italy, Mozart Festival Dortmund Germany, Ravello Festival Italy, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Smetana Hall Prague and the Prague Spring Festival in Rudolfinum Hall. 

He has had the pleasure of working with soloists such as: Emmanuel Pahud, Katona Twins, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Perca Du, Lambis Vassiliadis, Josef Suk, Zusana Ruzicková, Pavel Sporcel, Vaclav Hudacek, Tomas Strasil, Roman Patocka, Martin Kasik, Ivo Kahánek, Pieter Wispelwey, Ara Malikian, Hasmik Papian, Boris Brovtsyn, Reinhold Friedrich, Lucia Aliberti, Stefan Schilli, Alina Pogostkina, Oliver Kern, Giampiero Sobrino, Giuseppe Nova, Uto Ughi, Bernd Glemser, Christoph Hartmann, Roman Simovic, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Shlomo Mintz, Lilia Zilberstein, Sergei Nakariakov, Aiman Mussakhajayeva and Mischa Maisky. 

Gudni has toured all of Europe, East and West Africa, Near and Middle Eastern Countries, Japan, South Korea, South East Asia, China, North and South America. 

Since 1999 he has been the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Tubingen Chamber Orchestra touring in over 40 countries all over the world supported by the German Council of Music, the German Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute. 

From 2000 to 2004 Emilsson was the Chief Conductor of the Suk Chamber Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic. 

Since 2001 he has been serving as the Artistic Director and Cultural Attaché of the Classical Music Festival of the University City of Tubingen in Germany. 

In 2005 he started as the Chief Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra Camerata Bohemica Prague. 

From 2005 – 2017 Gudni Emilsson was Chief Conductor of the new founded Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2017 Emilsson continue his work with his new position as Honorary Chief Conductor of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok, Thailand. 

Radio, Television and CD productions are available in Europe, USA and Thailand. In November 2018 Gudni Emilsson was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa ofthe Kazakh National University of Arts.

Graduated from the Conservatory in Turin and Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon where he studied with the celebrated Maxence Larrieu. Described as one of the most outstanding Italian flutists of his generation, Mr. Nova made his debut in 1982 as a soloist with the RAI Symphony Orchestra. This marked the beginning of a brilliant career which has led him to perform in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, the United States and Asia (Japan, Thailand, China, Korea, Singapour). Soloist with several Orchestras, such as Prague Virtuosi, Ensemble of Tokyo, Orchestre de Cannes Côte d’Azur, Prague National Theatre Orchestra, Camerata Bohemica, Arena di Verona Orchestra, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Turin Philharmonic, Tübinger Kammerorchester, Thailand Philharmonic, West Bohemian Symphony orchestra, Chesapeake Orchestra, Astana Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, in prestigious concert halls and Festivals, like Suntory Hall, Kioi Hall, Hamarikyu Hall in Tokyo, Rome Parco della Musica, Dvorak Hall and Rudolfinum in Prague, Seoul’s Lotte Concert Halla and Art Center, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Serate Musicali in Milan. He taught at the Accademia di Pescara, at the Arts Academy Foundation in Rome, at the Scuola di Saluzzo, visiting artist at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, USA. 

He has recorded extensively, among them with Camerata Tokyo and Universal. Giuseppe Nova received the Chamber Music Award in Kyoto, he has performed at the G20 in Guatemala City, he received in Prague the European Award for Artistic and Cultural activities and in 2018 was appointed BMIMF Best Artist at the Korean Busan Maru International Festival. He has been invited by the Conservatoire de Lausanne and the Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon as Expert Juror for Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees, he now teaches at the Conservatoire de la Vallée d’Aoste.
